Session 3a LEARN: AI and Student Perspectives - Nov 5, 2025

Overview

The AI Student Perspectives event brought together faculty and students to explore how artificial intelligence is shaping teaching and learning at UNLV. Through a World Café discussion format, participants engaged in three rounds of conversation to share insights on how both instructors and students are using AI, the potential benefits and risks of these tools, and the broader impact of AI on learning, creativity, and academic integrity. Using prompts and a live poll, attendees reflected on their personal experiences and perspectives about AI’s role in higher education.

The session concluded with activities to help participants draft their own personal AI policy, followed by a focused presentation from the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. Matt Waid shared practical guidance on addressing AI misuse in the classroom and discussed real-world examples to help faculty respond effectively to emerging challenges. Overall, the event fostered open dialogue, critical reflection, and collaborative problem-solving around one of higher education’s most timely and complex topics.

We opened this session with two quick polls--one for faculty; one for students --to see each thought about how the other was using it! At the end of the session and after rich conversations, faculty and students re-assessed their initial impressions!
