Session 1b LAB: AI and Ethics - October 15, 2025

Overview

This 90-minute hands-on AI Lab builds on a previous ethics-focused session by guiding faculty through practical applications of generative AI tools in teaching. Participants explore AI-assisted tasks such as content creation, feedback generation, scenario design, and administrative work, then critically examine the ethical implications including bias, transparency, academic integrity, and the balance between deskilling and up-skilling. The session includes both instructor and student perspectives—faculty first use AI for teaching tasks, then switch roles to explore how students might use AI to complete assignments.

The lab emphasizes responsible AI adoption through structured reflection and group discussion. Facilitators (Ted Weisman, Julie Cohen, Alyssa Hill, and Beth Barrie) guide participants in identifying ethical "red lines," developing transparency strategies, and creating practical guidelines for AI use in their disciplines. The session concludes by reinforcing key themes of responsible experimentation and student trust, while pointing participants to ongoing resources and future sessions.
